Typing Speed Test

Measure your WPM and accuracy. No sign-up needed — just start typing.

How WPM is calculated

A word is counted as five characters, including spaces. Gross WPM is characters typed divided by five, divided by minutes elapsed. Net WPM — the number shown above — subtracts uncorrected errors, which is why it is the figure worth tracking.

What counts as a good typing speed?

Accuracy matters more than raw speed: going back to fix a mistake costs more time than it would have taken to type the whole word slightly slower.

Practice for what you actually type

General tests drill prose, but most people type a specific vocabulary all day. Practising that vocabulary is what builds useful muscle memory.
